2024-2025 Mazda3 & CX-30 Airbag Sensor Recall

Recall #N242490120 | Posted June 2025

Risk: Critical - Airbags may not deploy in a crash
Affected Vehicles:
  • 2024-2025 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks (51,857 vehicles)
  • 2024-2025 Mazda CX-30 crossovers (119,555 vehicles)
  • Total of 171,412 vehicles affected
Issue:

If the battery becomes completely depleted by leaving the ignition switch in the "ON" position, the Sophisticated Airbag Sensor (SAS) unit may store an internal fault. If the battery is then recharged and the vehicle restarted, the airbag warning light may illuminate and prevent airbags from deploying in a crash.

Remedy:

Mazda dealers will reprogram the existing SAS unit with improved software or replace the unit with an updated version. All repairs will be performed free of charge.

What to Do:
  • Check if your vehicle is affected by contacting Mazda customer service at 800-222-5500
  • Watch for official notification from Mazda (notification letters will be sent by end of July 2025)
  • Be alert for any airbag warning lights on your dashboard

Recall Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if my Mazda is affected by this recall?

Mazda will send notification letters to registered owners of affected vehicles by the end of July 2025. You can also check for recalls using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website or by contacting Mazda customer service at 800-222-5500.

Is there a charge for recall repairs?

No. All safety recall repairs are performed free of charge at authorized Mazda dealerships like Art Hill Mazda.

What should I do if my airbag warning light comes on?

If your airbag warning light illuminates, contact Art Hill Mazda immediately to schedule service. While the risk of airbag non-deployment only occurs after specific battery depletion scenarios, any airbag warning light should be addressed promptly.

How long will the recall repair take?

The airbag sensor reprogramming or replacement typically takes about 1-2 hours. Our service advisors can provide a more accurate time estimate when you schedule your appointment.

Can I still drive my Mazda before the recall repair?

Mazda has not issued a "Do Not Drive" notice for this recall. However, you should avoid leaving your ignition in the "ON" position when the vehicle is not running, as this is the specific scenario that could trigger the airbag fault.
